Is it possible to visit Downton Abbey this winter?

Now, we know what some of you reading this may be thinking: how could one possibly organise a visit to a very much fictional stately home, even if the charms and challenges of life at Downton have been thrust back into the nation’s conscience lately, thanks to the hit new Downton Abbey film?

The answer is that we are – of course – not strictly referring to Downton Abbey itself in this blog post, but instead to the building that TV viewers and cinema-goers around the world have come to recognise as Downton: the magnificent Highclere Castle.

This jaw-dropping Jacobethan-style residence in Hampshire has served as the main shooting location for the ITV drama series, and subsequently this autumn’s critically acclaimed film, since 2010.
